Argentinian-Italian soprano Natalia Lemercier is renowned for the depth and exciting colour of her voice, the power and impact of her dramatic stage presence and her versatility across the operatic repertoire.
Born in Rafaela (Santa Fe, Argentina), her early passion for music led her to study piano at the age of nine. She went on to study piano and composition at the Instituto Superior de Música de la Universidad del Litoral in Santa Fe, where she graduated as a National Music Teacher, specialising in singing.
Considered a singer-actress for the intensity of her interpretations, she has studied theatre and film acting and has been a guest at the scenic art classes of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
She began her studies in singing with Rosmarie Helf in Santa Fe, Argentina. She perfected her vocal technique with Horacio Amauri and her repertoire with Rosita Zozoulia in Buenos Aires.
She won a scholarship to the Accademia della Voce di Torino (Italy), where she completed her vocal studies with Franca Mattiucci. She actively participated in master classes with Claudio Desderi and Mariella Devia. In 2016 she improved her singing skills with the soprano Montserrat Caballé in Barcelona, with whom she prepared the arias for her first CD “Pasión por Belcanto”, recorded in the same year with Mtro. Sergio Merletti at the piano.
Among her many awards, she has won first prize at the Santa Fe Mozarteum (Argentina) in the competition for young musicians (1997), second prize ex-aequo at the Viguzzolo International Singing Competition (2003), second prize at the “Luigia Stramesi” Sale Competition (2005) and first prize at the “Luigia Stramesi” Sale International Competition (2007). In 2011, in recognition of her career as a lyric singer, she was awarded the “Destacados de Rafaela” prize.
Her wide repertoire includes chamber music, baroque (Handel, Purcell), bel canto (Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini), Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, among others. Her voice is valued for its solid vocal technique, the colour is appreciated for its phrasing, the bel canto line, the ability for the “pianissimi” and the great musical and theatrical expression.
She made her debut at a very young age as the Priestess (Aida). Her versatile personality has allowed her to take on early Baroque roles such as Galatea (Acis & Galatea), Belinda (Dido & Aeneas), the Fairy Queen, Mozart’s Mademoiselle Silberklang (Der Schauspieldirektor), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Elvira and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte). Italian repertoire includes Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims) and bel canto roles such as Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Lucrezia Borgia (Lucrezia Borgia), Elvira (I puritani), Violetta Valery (La traviata), Gilda (Rigoletto) in the Verdi repertoire and Puccini roles such as Musetta (La bohème), Cio-cio-san (Madame Butterfly). In 2002 she made her London debut as Elle in Poulenc’s La voix humaine.
In 2006 she was part of the first cast of the world premiere of the opera “Dante racconta l’inferno” by composer Andrea Arnaboldi, where she sang the roles of Gates of Hell and Francesca da Rimini,
She has sung in Argentina (Teatro Municipal de Santa Fe, Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires), Santiago de Chile (Teatro Municipal), Italy (Opera Giocosa di Savona, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi di Busseto,Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, Teatro Alfieri di Asti, Teatro Rossini di Lugo, Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza, Teatro Manzoni di Monza, Teatro della Concordia di Venaria Reale), Germany (Bayerische Kammeroper Würzburg), London (Charing Cross Theatre).She has taken part in festivals such as Magnitogorsk Opera Festival (Russia), Opera Festival (San Galgano, Italy), Festival Estivo di Varese Ligure (Italy), Festival Rossini di Lugo (Italy), Ketevan Music Festival (Goa, India).She was a member of the “Yira Yira” project of the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, which produced concerts throughout the province of Buenos Aires (Argentina), and participated in two tours with the company Opera 2001 with “Le Nozze di Figaro”, playing the role of the Countess Almaviva in more than 60 performances in theatres in Spain and France.
She has worked with conductors such as Sergio Siminovich, Pierangelo Gelmini, Alessandro Steffanelli, Wolfgang Kurz, Giancarlo Di Lorenzo, Bruno Nicoli, Gianluca Marcianò, Darrell Ang, Aldo Sissillo, Georghe Buhl, Pedro Pablo Prudencio, José Luis Domínguez, Roberto Paternostro, Santiago Lusardi, pianists such as Sergio Merletti, Roberto Barrali, Marin Limic and directors such as Rosetta Cucchi, Davide Livermore, Gabbris Ferraris, Aldo Tarabella, Jean Louis Pichon, Candace Evans, Pierfrancesco Maestrini, Alfonso Antoniozzi, Alejandro Bonatto and Emilio Sagi.
She has an intense concert activity with oratorio, chamber music, symphonic-choral concerts in Argentina, Italy, Chile, Germany, Spain, Croatia, Ukraine, Russia, China, India). In 2017 she was invited by the OkiagariKoboshi (association chaired by the famous designer Kenzo Takada) as a soloist to sing at the ceremony of 11 March (Fukushima nuclear accident) held at the Chernobyl Museum in Kiev and in Slavutych, where she performed together with other Ukrainian musicians.
Since 2011, she continues to perform and teach extensively, having given Opera Technique and Repertoire Masterclasses in Spain, Argentina, Russia and India.
She currently lives in Berlin and is adding new roles to her repertoire such as Tosca (Tosca), Leonora (Il trovatore), Anna Bolena (Anna Bolena), Elettra (Idomeneo), among others.
